Engenix: PCB Engineering Software

The Cimnet Systems Engenix solution automates engineering processes for printed circuit boards to help manufacturers dramatically reduce pre-production time and costs. The solution seamlessly integrates information from enterprise resource planning (ERP), computer aided manufacturing (CAM) and other core business systems so the engineering team can engineer PCBs consistently and accurately. Knowledge management capabilities make it possible to automatically identify and resolve potential problems. Communications with other parts of the business and with customers is enhanced to facilitate better work flow. Changes to a part or job triggered by a material change or work center attribute change are easily accommodated.

How it Works

Cimnet Systems Engenix incorporates input from CAM, quoting and ERP to streamline entering data, processing board specifications, creating verification steps, determining material availability and other key engineering steps. As needed, the solution supports an iterative process to engineer complex boards, addressing stack up, material requirements, and impedance. Engenix makes it possible to easily determine costs, generate routings, create a traveler and stack up, create scheduling and other production information, track e-mail correspondence, and create reports.

Business Value

Engenix can make your engineering team and engineering process a competitive asset. By automating PCB engineering processes, manufacturers can complete them in minutes—saving hours of engineering time. This allows manufacturers to increase throughput and in turn grow the business. The solution improves engineering quality and repeatability, data transfer speed and accuracy, implementation of new processes, engineering change notice management, and staff training.

Automated Features

Cimnet Systems Engenix delivers capabilities focused on improving the engineering processes for printed circuit board manufacturers. Key functional features include:

  • Stack-up Generation with Impedance Modeling. Either directly from CAM import or by using the Engenix wizard, create the optimal manufacturing stack-up with our industry-proven algorithm. Engenix easily handles complex HDI, rigid-flex and flex structures with impedance requirements. Users can employ rules to handle special requirements from complex plating calculations to customer specific materials. Users can choose from a range of different outputs to satisfy specific requirements for cost, manufacturability and customer specifications. For time sensitive orders material availability can be immediately checked directly from ERP.
  • Route & Traveler Generation. Create routes for all manufactured parts and tools in seconds. Step information includes production data from ERP like work center names, standard instructions as well as important attributes, SPC parameters and cost calculations.
  • Problem solving. Automatically search for engineering issues and their solutions, For example, when Engenix identifies an isolated spacing violation, it provides the instructions and tasks for the CAM team to modify the design and correct the problem. Also, it can notify the customer directly for approval.
  • Mass change. Once a board is in Engenix, a change in materials, production processes or attributes will flow to all associated engineering and production information.
  • Web portal. Engineering information is published to a secure web portal for staff to view it from multiple facilities.
  • Drill tool calculator. Defines rules for drill type and size, incorporating information on materials, thickness, customer specifications, and process rules by range of drill diameter or laser type. Generates Computer numerical control (CNC) machine instructions.
  • Tooling management. Supports tooling requirements for many board types, including flex and rigid flex. A tooling engineering change notice (ECN) process addresses the wide range of tooling, including fixtures, images (film) for layers, and punches.
  • New process implementation. Engenix easily accommodates changes in materials, machines, customer requirements, quality requirements, and manufacturing sequence. Processes can be changed without requiring mass changes to prior boards.
  • Communication and data transfer. Facilitates the exchange of information between engineering and customers, reducing errors and improving consistency.
